Friends of STAR will be launching an adoption scheme to be called "adopt a poor student" beginning January next year. We will be writing to the school to identify at least 10 of the school's poorest students to be given a monthly pocket money of at least RM50.00 each. We will also sponsor other requirements like school uniforms, fees and books for the students.

The program will commence sometimes in November this year when the selected students will be presented with new school uniforms and other school requirements for the 2011 school calendar year. We will provide the necessary monthly pocket money beginning January, 2011.

Two members of Friends Of STAR have donated the necessary funds for the project. Please note, this project is subject to approval by the school.

At the same time, we are looking into the possibility of awarding the top three best students for the SPM trial two-month internship program in either Dubai or Saudi Arabia with the cooperation of some companies there. Even though we have lined up a few sponsors for the program - the program needs to be approved by various regulatory bodies. It is highly unlikely that the program could be launched in early 2011 as earlier planned. The earliest possible date is 2012. It is also possible the program might not be agreed upon by the relevant authorities. We will be advising you about the status of this program from time to time. 

At the request of En Hashim, the headmaster of STAR, Friends of STAR have agreed to sponsor new gate for the school. The new gate will come with new ceramic logo of STAR. The gate itself will probably be of stainless steel.

Friends of STAR agree the gate is an important structure since it is "the first impression" any member of the public will have about STAR. A new better-looking gate will, of course, create a better impression. 

Ustaz Mohtar bin Haji Omar, mantan guru Pendidikan Islam STAR turut dijemput untuk menyampaikan tazkirah Ramadhan sementara menunggu masuknya waktu berbuka puasa.

Selepas berbuka puasa dan solat Maghrib, Dato' Dawa bin Abdullah, mantan Pengetua STAR dan mantan Pengarah Pelajaran Pulau Pinang menyampaikan ceramah umum. Selepas itu beliau menyampaikan sumbangan duit raya kepada pelajar-pelajar projek khas.

Harapan Pengetua STAR ialah supaya para pelajar STAR dapat membaca dan memahami al-Quran serta menghayatinya dalam kehidupan seharian. Setiap pelajar diminta khatam al-Quran sekurang-kurangnya sekali setahun.

The telco was referring to the RM20mil suit filed by Noor Haslina Abdullah, 39, against it on Sunday for allegedly revealing the contents of her SMS exchanges and recordings of her telephone conversations with other individuals.

"Celcom is a responsible corporation and will not tolerate any irresponsible behaviour or violation of its subscribers and/or customers' privacy, and will take any and all necessary action in this matter," said Celcom chief corporate officer Adlan Ahmad Tajudin in a statement yesterday.

He also said that Celcom viewed the allegation seriously and would cooperate with all parties involved to investigate the matter.

"Once the investigation is complete, and if the facts suggest that the claim is without basis, Celcom will not hesitate to take all necessary action to the fullest extent available under the law including an action for libel and abuse of court process," he said.
